A cultural mix

While there's no dearth of music festivals in the city, Eden in its debut year, aims to be different. The festival that "promises to transform Mumbai into a cultural playground, an urban space that captures the dynamic community of thinkers and creators," is the brainchild of Bhavishyavani Future Soundz (BFS) in partnership with Network Prive. BFS, who is also celebrating their 15 year anniversary, felt there was no better way to mark the milestone than with the three-day fest. Mathieu Josso, director Bhavishyavani Future Soundz, explains, "Eden is not just about the music, but also brings together really evolved visual artistes and performers. For the line-up, we have chosen a number of artistes whom we have worked with in the past, spanning across genres. We want the audience to participate and not merely be a spectator."

Those performing include Mike Shannon, dub artist Deadbeat, percussionist Guillaume & the Coutu Dumonts, Arjun Vagale, DJ Minilogue, Sandunes, M.Mat and many others. Berlin-based Crystalmafia will also perform and engage audiences while works by designer Little Shilpa and video artists like Wolves and Transhuman Collective will be on display.

The three-day fest has a different venue for each day so as to give audiences a varied experience. "The idea was to show music coming from the underground and then rising above, hence the first venue is a night club, followed by a boat and finally a terrace to show the evolution," says Mathieu, who assures that it will also be a visual feast with video installations, art modules and performances. "The idea is to bring together open-minded people, those interested in discovering talents in music, art and design. While Eden is in its first year, we hope to make it a travelling edition and take it across India.
