With the aim to collect funds for treament of children affected by cancer, 12-year-old Arav Hak will participate in the Dream Run at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon on Sunday, January 15. In a bid to contribute and make a difference, Hak has raised Rs 10,43,000 so far.

Speaking about how he managed to achieve this feat in four months, Hak, a resident of Bandra, says, "When I started raising funds for the treatment of cancer children, my aim was to collect Rs 50,000. Slowly, I started getting a good response, because of which I raised my target every month. I plan to raise more funds for these children. In the beginning, I spread the word about the social cause among my family members, relatives and friends. Later, I visited nearby societies, school friends, restaurants, and met a few corporates to spread awareness and raise funds."

With a huge task ahead, it was not easy for the little boy. "It is difficult to raise funds for a social cause. Many times people refused saying 'No, we can't help' but rather than losing hope, I tried my best to raise as much as possible," he adds.

The funds raised by Hak will be given to Nargis Dutt Memorial Charitable Trust for the treatment of children afflicted with cancer, between the age group of one year to 15 years. Supporting this good Samaritan is his mother, who has been associated with the Trust for a year. "I am happy to see that my son wants to give back to the society. He has been listening to stories from me about the children associated with the trust. What can be better than raising funds for them. One of the contributors donated Rs 50 for the cause on behalf of his maid. He wrote a comment stating that his maid heard about the cause and wanted to donate this amount from her pocket." says Nikita Padora, Hak's mother.

Hak shared a post on his social media accounts, which went viral, and was shared by his friends and relatives. A student of the American School of Bombay, Hak says, "I even got contributions from unknown people because of the post shared on social media. It also helped spread awareness about the cause I am supporting."
