5 things to do in Pokhara

5 things to do in Pokhara

Boat ride on Fewa Lake

One of the most beautiful spots in Pokhara, Fewa lake is surrounded by forests and hills. On a clear day, you might even be able to see the white peaks of the Annapurna range. You can hire a wooden boat and sail the calm waters and even try your hand at rowing. In the middle of the lake is the Barahi temple. Several boats surround the tiny island that's full of trees and pigeons. The small temple is dedicated to the boar manifestation of Ajima, who represents the female force Shakti.

Devi's Falls

Located approximately 2 km southwest of Pokhara airport Devi's Falls is also known as Patale Chhango. During the monsoon, these falls are a magnificent sight and the roar of the water is deafening

Watch the sun rise from Sarangkhot and the sun set from the lake

Sunset at Fewa Lake

You might have to wake up at 4 30 in the morning, but it's totally worth it. Head to Sarangkhot, which is approximately a half an hour drive from Pokhara and gape as you watch the sun rise over the snow peaks of the Annapurna range. Hoards of tourists try to make their way to the front for a better spot, but if you're willing to shell out an extra NPR 100, you can climb atop a higher private viewing point, for a better view. In the evening, you can enjoy a cup of tea at one of the lake side restaurants as you watch the sun set or take a peaceful walk along the banks of the lake. If you're lucky you might even see the setting sun glinting on the peaks.

Food stops
There are several reasonably-priced restaurants by the lake that serve a variety of cuisines including Indian, Nepali, French, Italian, Mediterranean and Malaysian. Chilly Bar and Restaurant, Laughing Buddha and Moondance are a few popular options. Many of the restaurants are located along Fewa lake and sitting on the banks of the lake is an ideal way to relish a meal. There are several street stalls where you can get a plate of momos or samosas.

Shoppers' Stop
There are plenty of shops along the road by the lake in Pokhara, which sell Nepali outfits, pashmina shawls, bags, wallets, footwear, and other little curios. At Devi's falls, there are many shops from where you can buy Nepali caps for men, jewellery, brass and copper animals and more. Make sure you bargain and if you find something you like, don't hesitate to pick it up as you may not get the same design at Thamel street in Kathmandu.
