Farah Oomerbhoy is probably the society set's best-kept secret. Admittedly preferring to keep a low profile, you'll never see this drop-dead-gorgeous society swan preening and posturing to the page 3 flashbulbs; instead, she prefers to spend her time in the hallways of thought -- in bookshops.

children's fantasy novel she's penning and her plans for an orphanage.

"I'm not into all that socialising. I prefer to keep to myself...and yes, I am slightly shy," says Farah in her first ever interview, dressed in aunt Pallavi Jaikishan's unique couture creation -- a 'dress-saree' that the designer will be showing at Couture Week today. "Writers inspire me -- so I'm always around bookshops or attending book readings, especially when I'm in London."

Married to corporate czar Riyad Oomerbhoy, Farah spends her days looking after her two sons, and it's only at night that she concentrates on her other 'baby'. "I'm writing a children's fantasy novel for 12-16 year olds. It's a fantasy adventure story -- sort of like Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings," she says.

"I've created a whole different world -- of these fantastical creatures. It's going to be a trilogy; I'm working on the first but I've already planned out the second and third books. You know, a lot of people see me as a very quiet person, but I like to observe. I like to listen to children talking."

More enamoured by the works of CS Lewis, Enid Blyton and JRR Tolkien than the latest must-have fashion label, Farah, who counts Queen Rania as an icon, wants to open an orphanage someday. "I really feel there are not enough orphanages, especially places that look after kids between one to six years old. I already have a nurse who will help me train the staff and my husband's family has some land...It's something I'd really love to do."
