What are the most preferred getaways this season?
The trend for this summer seems to show a heavy movement to Europe, USA and an emerging trend is Canada. Of course movement to Far East is always there but this summer there are some exciting new trends like self drive holidays and rail holidays.
Do you think Indians today are splurging enough on vacations?
Yes, Indians today are spending a much higher proportion of their income on travel than before. The Indian traveller today ranges from an extremely budget one to a super high end one. And they will travel as far as the budget will allow, but the trend is surely more towards long haul destinations.
How do you foresee the travel trends ahead?
It has become imperative to keep introducing new and exciting options.
Although group travel is most preferred, the shift to individual holidays is also taking place rapidly.
What are the evergreen destinations for foreign and domestic tourists?
The most popular destination seems to be Switzerland, however, destinations like Spain, Scandinavia, Canada are fast becoming popular. For the domestic tourist, Rajasthan, Kerala and Goa are the most popular places.
Is there any drastic change in the holiday/travel styles of the new age Indian travellers?
Absolutely, the new age Indian traveller is not at all apprehensive of exploring new areas. The experience is as important as the destination. DIY (or Do It Yourself Holidays) is the new merging mantra.
Are exotic getaways the most popular spots? What according to you are the hot spots?
Again, it depends on the budget of the client and the profile. Exotic getaways are also getting redefined in the Indian market. For example Northern Lights Tours and Ice Hotels are now in the exotic list. The hot spots would be the Italian, French, Austrian and Swiss Alps, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Spain and California.
How is India perceived as a holiday destination by tourists — both Indian and foreign nationals?
The perception of India has changed drastically over the past decade. India is perceived as exotic by most, but is also seen as a challenge by many.
