Priya Narang, a Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week first timer, hopes to bring alive Pakistan’s royalty on the ramp…

Tell us about your collection?
My collection is called Islamic Empires. It takes inspiration from the clothes that were worn by Pakistani royals. It will hold a mirror to the culture of Pakistan. Intricate embroidery and vibrant colours define my work.

What colours and fabrics have you used?

I have relied on green, yellow, pink, red and orange to bring out the various shades of Pakistan. Silks, chiffons and georgettes are my choice of fabrics.

What do you take into consideration while designing clothes?
Before designing a garment, I get down to understanding the pulse and desires of my clients. I also take into consideration their body type. I urge them to experiment with colours. For instance, I specialise in wedding trousseaus and often ask them to look beyond reds and pinks.

As a teacher of fashion designing, how practical do you find today’s courses to be?
Fashion institutes must rope in experts from across the globe to give students a better exposure to trends and concepts. NIFT offers the most practical courses according to me.

Do you think celebrities are necessary to popularise fashion?
While celebrities don’t really popularise fashion, they do add to the popularity ofthe shows. When there are great platforms like the Bangalore Fashion Week for designers, especially for new comers like us, to showcase our talent, the focus should be on the clothes rather than the show stoppers.
