How and when did you get into beat boxing?
I started off as an emcee and did small shows. I would arrive at the venue on time. But since most Indian events work on the ‘Indian Stretchable Time’, I would end up with perfectly good speakers, a microphone and an empty venue. I began to fool around with the equipment and realised that I could do more than just talk.

What are you currently working on?

Well, most of my revenue comes in from solo beat boxing at private gigs and corporate events, but I always look forward to jamming with other beat boxers, bands and solo musicians. I’m working on a couple of unique (top secret) projects that should be up and running by March next year. By the time you read this, I’ll be on a mini road trip with my crew to a few South Indian cities to promote the concept of artists’ self sustainability, through performances and workshops. Since the last two world records (and after one of them being broken in Dublin last month) I’ve been getting a lot of offers to help set/break unique world records next year. I’m looking forward to them.

What do you love most about being a performer?
I think the best part about being an artiste is to be able to connect and influence the audience. I believe artistes have the capability to mould the minds of the youth in India. I take great honour and pride in being such an artiste!

Bangalore’s music scene…

“Man, only if you were abroad… You would have made it big!” That’s what a lot of people tell me. In all honesty, Bangalore is a good place for an artiste to kick off his/her career and get their roots in place. People need to stop thinking of ‘making it big’. Instead, they must work towards making a living, doing what they love. It’s the people here that need a few changes to make it perfect!

One thing that you dream to achieve as a beat boxer?
I know you are expecting a fancy answer but I really don’t have one particular dream. I’ve figured out the direction I want to head in, the goals I plan on hitting and I’ve already started my journey. Going at the pace I’m on is more than enough. I just hope my voice box can keep up!
