Success doesn't come easy: model Irina Shayk

She’s graced the cover of several of the most sought after editorial spreads including Cosmopolitan, Elle and GQ and there’s no stopping Irina Shayk who’s often ranked in the top 20 sexiest models in the world. The Russian beauty who’s also known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue and is football star Cristiano Ronaldo’s long-term girlfriend, is walking the ramp in Mumbai for the ongoing Signature International Fashion Weekend held at Mehboob Studios, Bandra. She chats with After Hrs about being in India and her take on Indian fashion …

You’ve walked the ramp all over the world, any favourite cities?
I think every city or country has something different to offer. I love Paris and of course New York since I live there. But maybe after tomorrow it will be Mumbai, who knows?

How much do you know about Indian fashion, any desi designers who’s work you follow?
At the moment, I’m mainly aware of Falguni and Shane Peacock. I haven’t worn too many Indian garments but hope to try some while I’m here. I’m especially keen on wearing a sari.

Is there anything you’re looking forward to at the Signature International Fashion Weekend?
Firstly, it’s great to see how much Indian fashion is progressing. I’m really keen to see how each designer brings a piece of his/her own culture to the fashion show. I’m excited to see not only Indian designers but international ones as well showcasing on the same platform.

Will you be travelling anywhere else in India aside from Mumbai? Anything you’re looking forward to...
Unfortunately, I don’t have much time to travel. I think India is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I’m a great fan of Indian food too and hope to taste some unique dishes. Also, you have great weather.

You have recently forayed into acting, is that something you wish to pursue?
This year I did a small role for a film Hercules. For me acting is something different from my modelling, though I’m not sure if it’s something I will continue.

Speaking of films have you watched any Bollywood ones?
Bollywood is very big and constantly growing. However, I have watched Slumdog Millionaire, five times to be exact and completely loved it. 

You’ve been dating Cristiano Ronaldo for about three years now, what’s he like behind the football star facade
I’d rather not comment on our relationship. But he is a nice person and I wouldn’t be in a relationship with him for so long otherwise.

Finally, what’s the secret to your gorgeous figure?
I can never tell you my secret (laughs). I think it’s important to work hard, success doesn’t come easy. Also be nice to people, be beautiful inside and out and know what you want and go out and get it.
