Actress Parineeti Chopra reveals her simple but effective beauty regime

What’s in your make-up bag?
I don’t have a make-up bag, I just carry a lip balm. I usually don’t use any make-up if I am not in front of the camera.

Describe your skincare routine
I just wash my face once in the morning and once at night and use a moisturiser. I just can’t do anything more.

What’s your go-to beauty look for a red carpet event?
If I have to dress formally, a lot of make-up artists tell me I should do my eyes well. So a lot of smokey looks, a lot of eye definition. If I’m not doing that, I do a strong mouth.

What do you think is sexy, beauty-wise?
I like when women wear good colours and clothes that fit really well. I don’t care about brands and cuts. I also think women look sexy in oversized clothes. Beauty-wise, I really get attracted to eyes. I first notice people’s eyes, an infectious smile and if you smell great — it’s sexy.

Any idols growing up?
Just recently, I was talking about Audrey Hepburn to somebody. How at that time you had very few blow dryers and straighteners and make-up, etc, but even with minimal stuff, she used to look impeccable.

What are some tips you’ve taken from beauty artists and use daily?
I don’t own any make-up at all. I try and highlight my eyes and keep my lips the right colour.

Have you ever had any beauty disasters?
Countless ones! There are creams for every part of your face, there are 35,000 things that people have recommended. I’ve used them and ended up with pimples and rashes, it’s been a disaster.

What product do you turn to for a beauty boost?
Nivea face wash and moisturiser — it smells great.

Do you have a signature fragrance?
Yes, I love Narciso Rodriguez.

Do you gravitate toward a lip colour and if so, which shade?
I have at least 30,000 lip balms at home. I love red lip colours on myself and nude as well, light pinks or coral.

Do you think it’s important to stick with a signature look?
No, if you’re an actor you should have varied looks. You should give variety to people and yourself. In your personal life, if you’re comfortable in one particular look and it becomes your signature that’s a different thing. But I think everyone should try new things...

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
Very clichéd but very true — get enough sleep and drink enough water. I always used to think that sleep can’t affect my face, but I’ve seen the days I’ve shot for films when I’ve not slept and I could see eye bags on camera. Sleep is highly underrated.
