Music duo Blasterjaxx speak about their first performance in India

One of the most famous duos in electronic dance music right now Thom Jong kind and Idir Makhlaf have made a significant name for themselves as Blasterjaxx. Their passion for music catapulted them into fame in the mid-2010. A powerhouse of talent & potential their live sets are unparalleled gaining them a worldwide audience. Dropping sets on the stage at festivals all over the world, they are all set to perform in India for the first time.

We recently got a chance to interview the duo, here’s what they had to say:

Q. Thom, you were operating solo as a DJ initially. Tell us how did Blasterjaxx come about and how did the two of you end up together as a duo?

Idir back then was a huge fan of the Blasterjaxx sound and he dropped by in the studio one day with a common friend we both knew quite well. That is how I discovered the multitalented Idir and we easily clicked as friends and found the same sense of passion for our music in each other.

Q. What makes your team unique, what is the special factor that you two collectively bring together as a team?

The love and passion for good music is what got us together as a team. It sounds pretty cheesy but it really is the amount of feeling we put into our tracks. We love unexpected drops that make everyone go really nuts! Besides that we just make whatever sounds that we think are cool.

Q. At what age did the two of you start producing music and who were your inspirations back then?

My love and passion for music has been beyond words even since I was a young kid. When I was 15, I started producing some music here and there. So, it has been over 8 years I’ve been involved with the scene. Tiesto has been our strongest inspiration since he was from the same place, followed by the sensational Hardwell.

Q. Were you always interested in electronic dance music or are there other types of music you are interested in too?

We have always been fond of various kinds of music but Idir was very fond of reggae and hip hop and he still enjoys it.

Q. If you could change any one thing about the present music industry, what would it be?

I think it would be nothing. It needs to take its own direction.

Q. Which of your shows do you think you have enjoyed most in so far and why?

I would say our most memorable show was in Rome. We had a sold out show and we were headlining it. We can not wait to perform for Sunburn in India too. It definitely looks like it is going to be good.

Q. You are performing for the first time in India, what should your fans look forward to?

We have been known for our insane energy. However,  we have also heard the fans in India are crazy. We are hoping to see a good combination of both. We are excited to perform at Sunburn and looking forward to see the fans all charged up.

Q. What are your upcoming shows/projects/productions for 2015?

This year we have a lot of shows coming up which is great. We will be part of all major festivals like Ultra, EDC and  Tomorrowland, we are really looking forward to theses. It will also be the first time we will be coming to India, something which we are really curious about!

Blasterjaxx will perform live for Sunburn Arena in Mumbai on Friday, February 6, Hyderabad on Saturday, February 7 and Bangalore on Sunday February 8.
