Mohit Yadav talks about his online retail portal for kids

Mohit Yadav, CEO of Mangostreet.com, loves to dress up children; through his online retail portal for kids that is!

Tell us about how Mangstreet.com came into existence?
In general, shopping for kids is always a fun and pleasurable experience. However, very few brands in India offer clothes and other accessories for kids. One usually had to travel from one place to another to find the best clothes for kids. I always thought the kids sector in India was much disorganised. So I thought if I could start something to bridge that gap and cater to the needs of just children, it would be extremely convenient for parents. And that’s how Mangostreet.com happened.

What does mangostreet.com offer?
We are the first e- commerce company in the kids sector in India. We offer 25 to 30,000 options that are not available any where in India. We have options based on the activities of the kids like school, tuition or hobby classes. For instance, if a child is looking for swimming accessories, he or she can find everything here — from swimming suits to accessories including goggles and tubes. Our aim is to make it a pleasurable experience for the parents, value for their money, variety and save time for all the working parents.

The company has tied up with big brands like Barbie, Top Man and Hannah Montana and others. How did the you manage to tie up with such big brands?
This was the only place that focuses on kids’ wear; so when I approached the brands they agreed readily to partner with us. Also we are able to offer more variety from any particular brand. For instance, from the Hannah Montana series, we not only have clothes but the accessories, stationery and games, as well. The biggest advantage of having an online store is that we don’t have the problem of ‘space’; shops need to invest heavily in real estate to make sure all their products are displayed properly. As for us, we can do it online!

What are your plans for the near future?
We plan to expand horizontally. We want to include more options, such as footwear, school items and home decor. We have introduced fun costumes, made by an Irish company. We plan to introduce more costumes as they are quite helpful when a kid has to dress up for a fancy dress competition.
