I don't follow trends, says Kareena Kapoor Khan

Kareena Kapoor Khan opens up on her flirtation with style

I don't follow trends, says Kareena Kapoor Khan
Kareena

Kareena's style varies from being a girl-next-door in a pair of denims and flats to a red carpet diva in towering heels and gowns. The ease and confidence with which she pulls off varied outfits make her the ultimate clothe-horse. 'Effortless style' - is the phrase which comes to mind instantly when decodes Bebo's personal style. Over to the stylista...

How do you interpret style?

It’s in the attitude more than the clothes.

How do you interpret your personal style?

Very casual or casual chic like jeans and blazers, jeans and tees. I don’t follow trends but wear what’s comfortable to me. What’s comfortable you tend to look chic in that.

Do you follow fashion?

No I am not really into it like what’s the coolest thing to wear.

Tanya Ghavri's been styling you. How much is her input and how the two of you brainstorm?

I think Tanya and I have done some really amazing work together and she always styles me on point because she’s extremely talented. Also, she styles everybody according to their personality and bring that out. That’s what I appreciate and find really important. She styles Jacqueline Fernandez and Katrina Kaif too but she styles me in a totally different way. She styles me lot more casual with an elegant touch because that’s my personality.

Who are your favourite designers in India and internationally?

In India, there are so many new people doing such amazing stuff that it’s unfair just to take a few names. I like Nimish Shah, Bungalow 8, basically young people whose work I like a lot. In international fashion, I like Alexander McQueen and Christopher Kane. I am a big fan of Indian ethnic wear and handwoven saris.

Any penchant for accessories?

Mainly bags and shoes but not jewellery.

What's in your vanity kit?

Lakme Kajal pencil because I don’t use any other make-up.

What's your grooming regime like?

When I am stepping out for my personal work Tanya tells me to put on kajal, not to wear tracks and chappals. By the time I finish shooting and have to go for a party I am so tired I wear whatever I see. Mom and my sister also scold me that nobody ever sees what I shop as I don’t wear those clothes but keep them in the closet.

Where do you shop from?

I love shopping from London, Paris, Milan.

Who are your style icon and why?

Saif Ali Khan. He’s a dapper dresser and very stylish. I love Maharani Gayatri Devi whom I found to be very elegant as my mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore.

Any faux pas Indian women make?

We are always trying to ape what people are wearing in the West. If someone in Hollywood wears something on the red carpet then immediately people wear it here. Why do people do that? I love saris and I think Indian women look amazing in them.

Which city according to you is the fashion capital of the world and why?

Paris. There’s nothing like Paris. Even one night is like heaven on earth.

Which era in fashion history you like and why?

1960s.

Any stylish iconic character you'd like to essay one day and why?

Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. She was unbelievable and what a role.
