The black jambul is a one of the most common fruits consumed in India since early times. Found in alltropical regions of the world, it is known to be a native to India. In fact, it is believed that Charaka (the renowned physician of ancient India) used this fruit in the treatment of enlargement of the liver.

It is known to be useful in the treatment of diabetes, since it reduces the quantity of sugar in urine and satisfies thirst.

It is an effective remedy for diarrhea and dysentery and is effective if had with some buttermilk.

If taken with salt or honey every morning, it can act as a natural cure and prevention for bleeding piles.

Jambul also contains natural acids that secretedigestive enzymes and stimulate liver functioning. Hence, it is known to be effective in the cure ofliver disorders.

It has been observed that jambul is an effective remedy for sterility and miscarriage due to ovarian or functional disorder. This may be because it stimulates the secretion of progesterone hormone and help absorption of vitamin E.

However, the jambul fruit should not be consumed in excess as it may result in a bad throat, cough and collection of sputum in the lungs.
