Raavan: A heroic fall of the demon
RAVANA
Ramayan is a great epic by Maharishi Valmiki that explains the finer and fuller character of Lord Ram and Raavan. Though he describes Lord Ram as Maryada Purshottam because of his goodness, Raavan has been portrayed as the Devil and villian.
In the 19th century, a  philosopher named Michael Madusudan Dutt described Raavan as a hero and a very strong character since he was bold and enthusiastic in his action and convictions. Raavan was a Brahmin
Sanskrit scholar, also termed as handsome and tall, and always stood by the needs of his kingdom. Lord Brahma granted him divine weapons and sorcery.

Raavan is considered to have several virtues as a trustworthy king; the foremost being his knowledge of shaastras and  vedas, and capabilities to enchant difficult mantras to attain siddhi. Raavan was a tapasvi and a great
devotee of Shiva and believed to have composed Shiva Tandva Stotra. He always respected Sita and maintained his dignity by not going against her wishes.

People have constructed temples in his name and he’s worshipped during Dussehra. But why does Raavan serve as an antagonist in the  Ramayan? Lord Ram praised Raavan for his exemplary wisdom and advised Laxman to seek the blessings of the great scholar when he was breathing his last in the cremation ground.

Astrologically, when a person born with Aries, Leo or Gemini as an Ascendant and five planets along with the Sun situated in the fifth, sixth or seventh house with the affliction of malefic planets, then Sharyoga comes into existence. There are others factors, too, to ascertain Sharyoga. Under this yoga, Raavan was born. In such a situation, the native has great wisdom and is inclined towards academic pursuits. He’s religious, brave, vigorous, fond of music, dance and arts. He is obstinate, egoistic, and violent and trusts in amorous affairs. He’s inclined towards mysticism and occultism. The person cannot opt between the good and the evil, and generally takes the evil, followed by ruin, and disaster.

In today’s era, too, we come across business tycoons, leaders, saints, bureaucrats, etc. who come under the spell of Sharyoga. They dig their own graves with dishonourable acts, arrogance, or inclination towards lust for another woman. In my opinion, such demeaning acts can be avoided by particular remedies.

Remedies for Sharyoga

l Worship Maa Bhagwati.
l Perform yajna every year.
