In today's day and age where technology is playing such a huge role in our day today life, everything is available on just a touch of a button. Though it's amazing how technology is evolved, it's only made us couch potatoes! And we all believe that we are fit until one day an ache/illness or a visit to the doctor pinpoints that we are unhealthy and our body's vulnerabilities. Sometimes, making us regret or wishing we had taken care of our bodies better!
To me, exercising regularly and eating right food is the key to staying fit and healthy. Be it a run, taking part in a marathon, doing yoga or even flexing your muscles in your gym – blood circulation in the body is improved. Research has proved and so is well documented, that the endorphins released make you feel energetic, have an enhanced metabolic rate and brains function better.
Is there any age to practise this mantra? I think no! I am a living proof to that given that I started playing cricket very late at the age of 18. Usually, most kids start playing Under-13, Under-16 levels! My exposure to fitness and exercises started much later than most. Has that contributed to so many injuries in my long career? Could I have avoided it, if I was exposed to right kind of fitness when I was 12 or 13? I would definitely think so!
Which is the reason for me to think of putting the paces and setting up ProSport Fitness. A single place where you get everything you would need to raise your fitness level – from guidance to training to injury prevention to management by globally trained sports scientists and physiotherapists. Whether you exercise or don't, we want to bring out the hidden athlete inside you and ensure that you enjoy exercise and not simply look on it as a chore or merely a way to lose weight.
Which is why, when I read about people exercising, training to run a marathon – I truly think its fantastic. Marathon's help you make your daily exercise fun – as you train with people or even by yourself. When you are training for a marathon you are always competing with yourself ,trying to better yourself each time you run in terms of time. And what can better than beating your own special target every time? What's even better about running those long distances helps you have a conversation with yourself and understand a thing or two about yourself which you never really given attention to in the buzzing world.
My tips for first time runners are simple: Drink ample amount of water as running long distance can really dehydrate you. It's always good to keep your training schedule progressive and build up your stamina and increase the distance you accomplish slowly. Also ensure you take adequate rest days so that your recovery is as important for training!
Ensure you take precautions as injuries are part and parcel of any sport. Ensure your training program supplements your running style. Functional and core- muscle training along with strength and conditioning goes a long way in preparation for a marathon.
I feel that running a marathon can be viewed as a threefold process. First is the commitment to enter the race. Then—after making this, you commit yourself to train for the momentous challenge ahead. Finally, you can enjoy the most rewarding and gratifying phase of the marathon—the event itself! So go on, run and enjoy every step you take.
