Samit Basu is an Indian novelist, graphic novelist and screenwriter.
At 23, when the first part of 'The GameWorld Trilogy' – 'The Simoqin Prophecies' came out, it marked the beginning of contemporary Indian English fantasy writing. Till a few years ago, Indian fantasy in the same league as CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien was considered an extinguished dream.
Basu’s writing is gaining a dedicated fan following in India and abroad.
Recent book: 'Turbulence', a young-adult novel, is a superhero saga set in India, Pakistan and England. Published by Titan Books internationally, the novel was critically acclaimed worldwide and saw some brilliant reviews. Its sequel, ‘Resistance’, is scheduled to release in 2014. A cross between American superhero comics, Indian mythology and about half a dozen Japanese anime shows, the writer blends his influences well, and they work smoothly in tandem.
Basu's grip on a tight and original plot-line distinguishes him from other fantasy writers, who rehash the good old plots and make it a melting pot of the goblins and dwarves.
Quirky fact: Rohan Sippy is set to direct the film adaptation of 'Turbulence', for which Basu will write the screenplay.
