Cell phones kill romance and cause relationship problems. Here's how...

Our obsession with technology can easily become a relationship-wrecker as it takes over our lives and replaces face-to-face interaction. Now, with cell phone plans offering unlimited calling and texting, there are no boundaries and we walk around glued to our cell phones.

Author and relationship expert Madhuri Banerjee says, “It’s almost like having a relationship in your pocket that you constantly want to check on, but at the cost of all other personal relationships.” People who were prone to insomnia now face another barrier to sleep as they feel the need to check their phone or are awakened by the vibration of text messages.

Families struggling to spend time together now have another hurdle as dinners and gatherings are spent with fingers glued to the phone. We suggest you do away with excessive texting.

Get outside! These types of opportunities often bring out our inner child so go with it, get playful and see where it leads. Staying in the house often means you’re stuck alone with your phone. You may learn something new about their family or partner, discover something new you can do together, and if nothing else, have a good time goofing around together.

Give yourself permission to say no! Whether this means refusing to be tethered to a mobile device for work, or saying no to checking email during certain hours. It is okay to say no and just hang out with family or even alone. But relationship and couple counselling expert, Shreya Poddar advises, “Have a plan in mind, even if it’s just to sit on the couch together and talk when you’re off the phone, or you will be tempted to use it.”
