If you are bored of wearing saffron, white or green kurtas every Republic Day, then this is the year to try something new. Designers and stylists give tips on how to dress chic in the three national colours without disrespecting the flag.
Designers Falguni and Shane Peacock say, “The three colours can be flaunted in different ways without looking over zealous. White is a classic pick. Choose white linen or cotton pants, team it up with green or orange top in pastel shades for a chic look.” For those who prefer to be subtle, designers suggest, accessorising a plain white ensemble with chains in green or orange stones. One can add a tote and kitten heels to complete the look.
Accessories are always good add-ons to the style statement. Designer Gogee Vassant says, “There are many options to accessorise and wear the colours. You can opt for a scarf in bright saffron or green or both the colours in intricate patterns and team it up with a basic colour outfit while stepping out in the chilly weather. You can also go for a green dress in a dark shade and team it up with an orange-dyed jacket for an evening out with friends.” Also, as green is the colour of 2013, get creative and add a streak of green in your footwear.
But if you have none of the above, then try the accented nails. Wear coral on four fingers and a green on the ring finger. Clint Fernandes, make-up artist, cautions against painting one’s face as one would for a cricket match. “It is a good idea to wear silver-white eyeshadow with green kohl eyeliner and top the look with a coral mouth. Also, orange cheeks can make for a great style statement for slightly dusky women as it adds a glow to their cheeks. If you would like, flaunt orange bindis as they are classic,” concludes Clint.
