Owais Husain is 42 years old and let himself be exposed to many
different experiences in life. His upcoming art show has elements of all these experiences. He is exhibiting his works in Mumbai after 10 years.
He went to the Andaman Nicobar Islands to study light and at 17 when he read a book that changed his philosophy of life, he truly believed that the only way to lead one’s life was to have a bread shop around the corner and earn his ‘own bread’.
He says, “I started thinking on the lines of — what is the significance and the meaning of anything at all? I came to realise that everybody in life has a role to play and that they have to do their level best…so much so that I only sleep for a few hours in a day. I hate sleep.”
Owais’ show has elements of things that have been developing his thought process. He explains, “The concept of the show is ‘three worlds’ and is about an expression of the mind. There are three levels to the exhibition — the first one is the 25 paintings, second is installation and third is photography.”
He adds, “There is one installation of my poetry and music and my writing that I produce and my images that go along with my poetry. This talks about the concept that to speak is to lose something of yourself. But it’s a dichotomy as without communication, you can’t survive in the world.”
