Meanwhile, spread of the disease to new areas has further raised challenge for the authorities as there are possibilities of it spreading to other cities.

In view of rising cases, a team from Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has also arrived in the state couple of days ago to assist the state health authorities to combat the disease. Meanwhile, the health department has increased the number of its field teams to 330 which are going door-to-door in the affected areas to collect blood samples and take preventive measures.

The officials are though unable to commit on any definite programme for the eradication of the disease. The authorities are dependent on anti-larvae activity to prevent breeding of mosquitoes and thousands of possible mosquito breeding sites have been sanitised over the past weeks.
