Zika: Above 200 fined as Jaipur Municipal Corporation finds larva in tanks

The action was taken under the ongoing drive of eradicating the Zika virus in the city and for this, the local body is working to finish the larva breeding and keep the city neat and clean.

More than 200 people have been fined in a month’s time period whose water tanks were found containing larva. The action was taken by Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) and after doing the survey of various colonies in the city, it found that 281 people had not kept the water tanks clean and larva was breeding in them. Therefore, a total of Rs 2,97,000 was collected from these offenders as carrying charges.  

The action was taken under the ongoing drive of eradicating the Zika virus in the city and for this, the local body is working to finish the larva breeding and keep the city neat and clean.

Notably, in the last few weeks, city residents have witnessed many diseases which are infected by mosquitoes and private labs have seen patients coming to get medical tests done for various infections. The attention of the government was also drawn after cases of Zika virus were seen first in the city in the month of October and review meetings were held. After that, the district administration had also directed the local bodies and medical and health department to ensure that there is no water logging in the city.

Thereafter, JMC had started the action of cleaning the nullahs in the city while the common man was made aware of cleaning the places where water is stored like water tanks, coolers etc. The ones who failed, this action of collecting the carrying charge has been taken against them.

During the action, in ward number 23, a control room was set up by JMC and survey of the door to door was done and anti-larval activity was performed in water tanks. Meanwhile, in ward number 35, the water logging near the level crossing of Sanganer Railway Station still persists. JMC officials informed that JDA has to construct a water channel for clearing the water logging here as the area comes under the jurisdiction of JDA.
