The 12th edition of annual literature festival starts in the Pink City on Thursday. The past decade has seen it transform into a global literary brand which has started drawing authors and academicians from around the world.

The day begins with morning music at the Front lawns where Shruthi Vishwanath would be performing. In keeping with the tradition, the festival officially kicks off with the keynote address by Ruth Padel, an award-winning British poet and writer of several books.

She speaks about our origins in her talk titled The First Cell on Earth.  Nobel laureate, Sir Venki Ramakrishnan speaks on the role of science in today’s world in his address on Thursday at the front lawns.

Festival director William Dalrymple would not abe able to attend the event, which had helped put together with his co-director and author Namita Gokhale. In a tweet he informed the passing away of his father and his inability to attend to the festival he has been a part of for more than a decade now.

The Zee Jaipur Literature festival is a flagship event of the Teamworks Arts, which also produces over two dozen acclaimed performing arts and literrary events in 40 countries across the world.

This year, Diggi Palace, the venue of the Zee Jaipur Literature Festival (ZeeJLF), is expected to get a footfall of more than 1 million over the five days. Much of this has to do with the sheer multitude of ideas and knowledge that the festival brings together and opens up to its audience.

As many as 2,000 panelists will share their views and offer an insight into their lives during the discussions ranging from history and politics, to economics and geopolitics, social issues, popular culture and films.
