ZEE JLF 2019: Not controversy, talks on science, DNA and women dominate Lit Fest

The Jaipur Literature Festival concluded on Monday, this time too without any controversy.

On the fifth and last day there were sessions ranging from discussion on Kumbh to Panini’s Sanskrit grammar to a lot of issues. 

The experts also spoke about government programme of Swachh Bharat while authors spoke of Himalaya Yatra and other sessions across six lawns at Diggi Palace the festival venue.

Sources informed that close to 5 lakh visitors came to this literary event this year, even though this time probably for the first time the online registration window was closed before the festival itself.  However, long queues were seen for on the spot registration at the venue itself.

Sessions on science and technology were in focus this time. The key note address on the first day was given by Noble laureate Veny Ramakrishnan who spoke about ‘The Role of Science in Today’s World’ while there was also a session on DNA and genetics too on the first day. 

On the second day session Gene Machine and the Culture of Science set the tone for scientific temper in Jaipur literature festival. It was only natural therefore that a lot of students and teaching fraternity visited the JLF this time.

The last day of this season also saw a lot of school students visiting various sessions. Many school and college students on all 5 days came early morning to listen to morning music. 

These were being organsied at Front Lawns daily for about 35 minutes and turned out to be an absolute hit . 

Both Indian and foreign visitors from across several countries made it a point to reach the venue early to find a palce at Front Lawns to listen to the morning raga which saw artists like Usha Uthup, Shruti Vishwanath and other aritsts practising different forms of music.

Apart from literature, since last few seasons, the fest has also been discussing issues of social importance including women issues. This time there were sessions on Child Labour while Swachh Bharat programme too a was topic of discussion.

There was also a session on Right to Information Act of the country in which experts like Harsh Mandar, social activity Aruna Roy and others participated.
