LOAN WAIVER: A REPLY, NOT ANS

The Minister of Water Resources, Dr Ram Pratap, did not give a clear answer to the farmers’ bank loan waiver, on Monday. But in a philosophical way, the minister said that all political parties and farmers have to solve it, by studying this problem.

In order to consider the demand for farmers’ debt waiver, the state government had formed a committee under the chairmanship of Dr Ram Pratap. On the question, in a press conference, Dr Ram Pratap said that in states like Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra etc., it has been declared to waive bank loans of farmers. These states have announced debt waiver, but have not done anything on the ground. He mentioned that something has happened in Kerala and Karnataka in this direction for debt waiver. That’s why our government sent a team of officials to study. Apart from this, the members of the committee, co-operative Minister Ajay Singh Kilak and Minister of State for Energy Pushpendra Singh, went to Karnataka to study the work.
