Workshop for migrant workers held in Pink City

A two -day workshop on awareness generation on migration and pre-departure orientation is being conducted by RSLDC jointly with MEA, India Centre for Migration (ICM) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Jaipur on May 29 and 30.

The workshop is being organized to train representatives of District Administration and recruiting agencies with a purpose to disseminate knowledge and create awareness regarding safe and legal migration.

Inaugurating the event, the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan, Devendra Bhushan Gupta emphasized on the need of creating awareness among migrating workers. He further said that a lot of workers migrate to other countries for their livelihood and due to ignorance, they face a lot of troubles and are landed in horrible situations sometimes.

Adding further, Rajesh Yadav, Secretary, Skills, Employment and Entrepreneurship said, “There’s major migration from 5 districts of Rajasthan ie Churu, Jaipur, Jhunjhunu, Nagaur and Sikar to mainly GCC and these migrating laborers face two major problems - language and skill deficit. Therefore we need to focus on these two.” 

It was also discussed that dedicated passport centres are being set up in the districts of Rajasthan. In the near future, it is expected that around 5 lakh passports will be issued through these centres.

ACS Social Justice and Chairman, RSLDC JC Mohanty said, “The workshop will help bridge gap between the industry and workforce and will help safeguard the interests of the migrants.
