The General Body meeting of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (JMC) was held on Tuesday amidst a lot of drama. This is the last meeting of JMC before the code of conduct for the Assembly polls comes into force.
The meeting was held to discuss administrative and financial sanction for various development works in the city. However, it failed in its agenda as many candidates and their supporters reached along with the public protesting for those who were deprived of employment in recruitment of sanitation workers recently. They started creating a ruckus in the meeting room.
Some women too staged a protest against Mayor Ghanshyam Ojha and even offered him bangles and a sari as a mark of protest.
Apart from this Congress and BJP councillors also engaged in a verbal spat while the Mayor continued to read the proposals at hand. Nine proposals were passed without any discussion. A heavy police force was deployed at the JMC headquarters. Later, the Mayor gave assurance to conduct investigations into allegations of scam in the recruitment process by meeting the protestors.
Congress leader Rajendra Solanki said that the general meeting of the municipal corporation ended in a haste. He alleged that the Mayor does not even discuss problems with the people. He added that today, the proposals were passed without any discussion, which is wrong. He also alleged that the ruckus was BJP sponsored.
While Ojha maintained that he had left no stone unturned in the development works and added that work will be completed on time. Describing Solanki’s allegations as baseless, he said that resolutions have been passed by a consensus.
Congress councillors while raising slogans against the mayor began to questions him over corruption in recruitment process. The BJP councillors protested and both clashed. BJP councillor Karni Singh started to push Congress leader Ganpat Chauhan.
