As the Rajasthan assembly elections are nearing, the Congress has began changing the face of its organisation at block and district levels. Nearly 400 block presidents in 200 assembly constituencies and 39 districts presidents may be named any time by the party. A fresh list of co-opted members may be released along with.

“The party has decided to appoint new presidents at block and district level which would help plan election campaign accordingly. A high-level meeting chaired by AICC general secretary and Rajasthan in-charge Avinash Pandey, which was attended by RPCC chief Sachin Pilot, AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot and LoP Rameshwer Dudi discussed it recently. The list of new presidents is being drafted and may be released any time,” said a senior Congress leader.

The party sources added that several senior leaders are unhappy with the list of PCC members which was released by the AICC a couple of weeks ago. “In the list many prominent leaders were left out which created friction within the party . Hence, exercise to accommodate left out leaders has been started and a fresh list will be released along with block and district presidents,” said another leader.

The party appoints 400 block presidents with two each  in 200 assemblies while 39 presidents are appointed at district level including two in seven divisional headquarters. The appointments in the organisation at district, block level, however, are not fair. Sources said that prominent leaders, be it MLA, MP or a senior leader, forward names, or recommend for block and district presidents, which are accepted. Almost 30 years ago the organisation election with casting votes was held in Rajasthan Congress when its office was situated at Bari Chopar.
