Professor RK Kothari, who has been recently appointed as the Vice Chancellor of University of Rajasthan, plans to form a committee and fund the students on need-cum-merit basis, using the salary he receives from the university. Kothari said this while taking charge as the vice chancellor on Wednesday.

“After completing my education from this university and working here for 38 years, I have a tremendous attachment for my alma mater. However, I did not expect that I will be getting this good salary. So, I have decided that I will keep the pension for myself, but whatever salary I get after deducting the income tax, I will give it for funding the students who deserve it. I will form a committee which will track the students on need-cum-merit basis and will pay their fees,” Kothari said.

Talking about fund management, Kothari said he will form a funds monitoring committee which will be monitoring the movement of funds rigorously.

“On one hand, we complain that we do not have funds, and on the other hand, reserves worth crores of rupees remain unspent. The budget currently is in the deficit by Rs70-80 crore. I believe, if the reserve also goes to waste, we will have no money to pay salaries and pension in the near future,” Kothari said.

Talking about shortage of teachers and making the institute better, the V-C said that he aims to work with all teachers as a team. “There is shortage of teachers and workers in the university and my aim is to work on that, so that the working in the university gets more organised. I will also work on making the placement cell very strong and student-oriented and take help of all the teachers here and be in constant touch with them, to increase RU’s ranking step by step,” Kothari said.
