The state government’s various scholarship schemes for meritorious girls in secondary and senior secondary classes have given wings to the promising students. One such beneficiary is an 18-year-old Vishakha Jadon, daughter of a Kota welder, who cleared NEET on her second attempt with an All India Rank of 3,974. Vishakha Jadon is a resident of Mahaveer Nagar Extension area of Kota city.

“The journey to become a doctor has now begun and all this has been made possible by government scholarships and support of my dadaji and fee concession given by my coaching institute,” she said. It is her grandfather’s pension, a retired driver Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant (RAPP), that helps the family meet its requirements as with her father’s income is not substantial enough.

Studying in a private Hindi-medium school, Vishakha obtained first district merit by scoring 96.17 per cent marks in 10th class in 2014 that helped her obtain state government’s Priyadarshini Award of Rs 75,000. In Class 12th, she scored 84 per cent marks. ‘The scholarship amount of around one lakh rupees enabled me to secure admission in a coaching institute of the city to prepare for entrance exam for admission in a medical college,’ Vishakha said.

Though Vishakha failed to secure admission in medical college in her fist attempt when he secured AIR 45000, neither she nor her family gave up and continued to work hard. It was her grandfather who offered his savings to support her studies when she decided to give the exam a second shot.

She had distanced herself from them and did not even use a cell-phone for the past two years to concentrate on her studies and clear the NEET. When contacted, Vishakha was in her friends. “I had deserted them for two years for my studies,” she said. She appeared cheerful, but said she does not yet use the phone extensively. Vishakha said she would use it and also create a social media account after getting admission in a reputed medical college.
