Good health is the key to success, said Rajya Sabha member Subhash Chandra at a philanthropic event in Jaipur on Saturday. The Member of Parliament was speaking at the Eternal Heart Care Centre that has launched an initiative to offer extended healthcare facilities to the needy for free.

At the hospital, Chandra inaugurated a 'Wall of Donors' honouring 13 groups that have contributed Rs 21 crore, under Corporate Social Responsibility, towards an endowment plan floated by the hospital.

"Agar vyakti mansik aur sharirik roop se swasth nahin hai toh vo achha toh kya bura bhi nahi kar sakta [If a person is not in a good mental and physical shape, he can neither do any good nor bad]," said Chandra.

The Parliamentarian added, "When a person enjoys good health, he thinks of others, lives his life and acts in good spirit, which leads to success." He also offered to contribute Rs4 crore to the cause.

The Eternal endowment event was attended by many dignitaries, including actor Anupam Kher, Miss India 2013 Simran Ahuja, and SP Lohia, chairperson of Indo Rama Corporation.

Reflecting on the culture of charity in Rajasthan, Chandra said, "Dasvand is our legacy in which people give away 10 per cent of their profits for the welfare of the society. Ye desh ki dharohar hai, isi se desh chal raha hai [it belongs to the nation and the nation is run by it]."

Praising the initiative, Chandra said, "I am happy that I am here. It's a great initiative by EHCC Hospital. Through Eternal Charitable Fund, poor people will now be able to get medical facility and treatment which could only be afforded by the rich." He invited others to do their bit for the initiative. "I know there are a number of rich people in Jaipur. I hope they will contribute to the fund so that poor people are benefited."

Hospital chairman Dr Samin Sharma said they are grateful to the MP for the generous donation. "With the added contribution of Rs4 crore, the fund for our endowment plan has reached Rs 25 crore." Dr Sharma said the interest earned from the corpus will be used to finance the treatment of select patients. "A committee shall decide the beneficiaries who can be admitted under the plan."

THE INITIATIVE

The EHCC hospital has raised a corpus of Rs 21 cr, which will soon become Rs 25 cr with MP Chandra’s contribution. It will be used to provide free healthcare facilities to the needy
