Leader of opposition, Gulab Chand Kataria expressed resentment for criticism of former BJP government in the governor’s address. Speaking in conclusion of debate on the governor address, Kataria said that the address drafted by new government has unfairly judged upon working of the former BJP government at state.

While Kataria defended for the BJP government, he objected upon decision of the new government to withdraw qualification rider for Panchayati Raj elections. “It’s an issue for us to deliberate if educational qualification should not be necessary even seventy years after independence,” said Kataria.

“There are cores of rupees being spent through the local bodies and thus it’s necessary that the elected representatives are able to read and understand,” said Kataria.

He said the educational qualification rider introduced during the regime of BJP government has yielded positive results. It had come to strengthen democratic values at village level and helped control corruption. He said this lead to emergence of new leadership at the villages and put end to nepotism in the village government. The Congress government step, he said, was against progress oriented development.

Kataria while was displeased over the charges levied at the address on the former BJP government, he claimed that development figures mentioned were misleading. He said that while the address is supposed to reflect upon the intentions and plan of new government, the address drafted by Congress government blames upon the BJP government for a dozen times.

He held previous Congress governments responsible to hinder state’s development and challenged for a comparison between ‘50 years’ of Congress and 5 years of BJP government. Kataria hailed the achievements of BJP government and said that the state has progress more in 20 years of BJP government in comparison to 50 years of Congress governments.

He raised the issue of farm loan waiver and demanded that the government should come clean on the promise.
