Water is all set to become the fulcrum of politics in Nagaur and BJP is ready to cash in on it.
A mega show is planned for Tuesday, May 1 when water from Indira Gandhi Canal would reach Nagaur; something the district has been demanding for the last three decades. Chief minister Vasundhara Raje will inaugurate the same. Also lined up are the inauguration of a women’s college, railway over bridges, roads, dak bungalow and health centre.
Deedwana in Nagaur gets water supply through pipeline once in seven days. The water is largely underground water and not sweet. Providing water through a lift canal has been a poll promise in Nagaur in the last more than half a dozen elections spanning across three decades.
Now with water having reached Nagaur, Public Works Minister minister Yunus Khan has plans to make it a large event and claim credit.
Khan, who is close aide of Raje, is camping in Deedwana which is also his electoral constituency to oversee preparations for the event. On Sunday, Khan went door-to-door during the trial supply of water connections in Deedwana.
Urns filled with canal water were taken to temples and mosques and prayers were offered. The water is being described as ‘water from Kashmir’.
“Congress had made water a poll issue for us it is a tapasya that has been fulfilled.
It is my biggest achievement and gives me immense happiness and satisfaction that we have made it happen,” said Yunus Khan to DNA.
Close to 1,0000 sarees and chunris of similar design and colour have been ordered from Surat and distributed for a large kalash yatra that is to be organised on the day.
