Chief minister Vasundhara Raje has tried several experiments so far in her 4-year tenure. She took government to every divisional headquarter, ran good governance campaigns like Sarkar Apke Dwar, Apka Zila Apki Sarkar, Nyay Apke Dwar to name a few. These initiatives have gone down well with the public. Now she intends to enter into fifth year of her governance in style. She is celebrating the 4th anniversary in Jhunjhunu, away from the high voltage lime light of her government's headquarter. And if it is any indication, the focus of Raje will be on Shekhawati region in the final year. Deviating from usual fashion of celebrating the success of her governance from Jaipur, this time Chief minister Vasundhara Raje decided to share her feat with rural populace of Jhunjhunu, who are known for their entrepreneurial skills and farming. MLAs and ministers of this region have been instructed for a gathering of 1 lakh people. Senior ministers Rajendra Singh Rathore, Yunus Khan and Shrichand Kripalani among others are using their influence to source people.

It also carries an important political message. After the demise of two Jat stalwarts Sanwar Lal Jat and Dr Digambar Singh, BJP fears losing grip on Jat votes. Raje through this function in this 'Jatland' looks to establish a connection with Jats before state goes for poll.

"She chose Jhunjhunu because it falls in the centre of Shekhawati connecting other two districts of Churu and Sikar," said a BJP leader.

These three districts have 21 assembly seats - roughly 10 per cent of the total strength. In an internal survey, it has come out that BJP is losing ground in this area. For a come back, the party needs to galvanise the grassroots.

"There could be two reasons why BJP seems to be on sticky wicket. The farmers agitation whose epicentre was Sikar has created cracks in the party's votebank and the other reason is party's rebel MLA Ghanshyam Tiwari, who is campaigning in this region against his own party," said Rameshwar Singh, a political observer.

Farmers are a major votebank in Shekhawati. By giving importance to Jhunjhunu, Raje sends out a strong message to farmers that BJP cares for them. And in doing so she is also countering 'misadventure' of Tiwari, who has damaged the party through its DeenDayal Vahini.

After the unexpected stiff fight from Congress in BJP's homeground Gujarat, Raje realises the importance of every vote in coming elections. Through this master stroke, Raje looks to neutralise three factors at one go - Jat, farmer and Tiwari.

"Shekhawati will play a critical role in next elections. Congress is banking heavily on Jat votes. If Raje succeeds in making a dent, BJP may have an upper hand," Singh said
