With the Assembly election around the corner, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has launched a new charm offensive with a view to wooing Rajputs and Jats - two communities - who play an important in influencing the outcome of any election.

Raje had a busy Saturday as she devoted the entire day in attending two functions organised by these communities.

In the morning she graced the swearing-in ceremony of “Kshtranis” or the Rajput ladies who had come in large numbers. They offered chunri to the chief minister and raised slogans in her support. Raje while accepting the gift said that the chunri is symbolic of the responsibilities she has been bestowed upon her.

In the evening, she felicitated the young members of the Jat community at a function organised by Rajasthan Jat samaj Sansthan at Vidyadhar Nagar where youngsters who have civil services exams were honoured. Union minister of state for commerce C R Choudhary, water resources minister Dr Rampratap, cooperative minister Ajay Singh Kilak among other Jat leaders who were in attendance. Interestingly, Amber MLA Naveen Pilania was also present.

Pilania had won the assembly election on Kirori Meena-led NPP but did not join the BJP when Dr Meena merged NPP with BJP. Since a large number of Jat community is engaged in agriculture, Raje spoke about the farm loan waiver scheme and said that no other government since independence had done this.

She praised the Jat community for realising the importance of education. During her address, Raje said that if their love and blessings continue then the journey of development will keep on going in the state.
