A meeting of BJP representatives from across the state was held in Jaipur on Monday to deliberate on the preparations for forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Only about half of the functionaries who had been called were present for the first meeting by state in-charge Prakash Javadekar and co in-charge Sudhanshu Trivedi. What was noteworthy was that former CM Vasundhara Raje, the face of the BJP in assembly elections, was not present.

Union minister Javadekar told state functionaries that next 50 days were a challenge for them and they needed to gear up for Mission 25 to win all 25 seats. He also gave two slogans to upcoming polls - Kaho Dil se Modiji Phir Se and Ek Baar Phir Modi Sarkar.

Total 450 functionaries belonging to various clusters formed at district level were expected for the meeting to chalk out strategy for Lok Sabha elections. However, only around 200 came for it. Incidentally, this was the first meeting taken by state in-charges who have been appointed by the centre. Former minister Arun Chaturvedi told the media that it was marriage season and those who have not come have informed beforehand.

What was noteworthy was that Raje was also not present even as assembly session is running. She is on a four-day tour to Jhalawar. Party sources said that she was not part of the people needed for this meet.

All district presidents, Lok Sabha in-charge, deputy in-charge, state functionaries, in-charges of morchas and beneficiaries attended the meet. Javadekar, Trivedi, general secretary organisation Chandrashekhar, V Satish, state chief Madan Lal Saini, LOP Kataria and deputy LOP Rajendra Rathore also addressed the meet.

They called upon the party cadre to spread the word about the good works done by the Union government to the public through booth level workers. They were also told to expose the lies of the Congress government regarding loan waiver to farmers and providing unemployment stipend to the youth.

A meeting of election management committee to finalise poll preparations would be held on January 26. It is believed that a 15-member election management committee and 17-member election committee would soon be announced so that poll preparations can be speeded up. But absence of Raje and around half the functionaries expected for the meeting gives rise to further speculation.
