Chief minister Vasundhara Raje and Kirori Lal Meena on Friday shared not just a stage but also a garland at Mandavari village in Dausa district. This was the first public rally the two have jointly addressed after Meena’s induction into BJP. The rally was held near Balinath Maharaj Temple, a highly revered saint; was dedicated to the public. Raje and Meena addressed each other as brother and sister, who had come close after a long period of estrangement.
The joint public outing is being seen as a bid to garner support of the Dalit and tribal voters in the area. Mandavari falls under the Lalsot assembly constituency; that Meena was representing as a NPP MLA. He has been given a berth in Rajya Sabha after joining BJP. It is situated at a spot where three districts Dausa, Karauli and Sawai Madhopur have common border.
Speaking on the occasion, Raje said she was honoured to have visited the temple of the reformist saint and announced that the government would make a panorama on the life and teachings of Balinath Maharaj. Raje offered floral tributes at Balinath Maharaj’s samadhi and took blessings of the saints present at the temple.
Raje flayed the opposition by saying that the interests of the scheduled caste and tribes have been neglected for the last 60 years and claimed that her government had worked at the ground level to benefit them.
Meena assured the public that the BJP would not tamper with reservation if it comes to power. He said this rumour was being spread as part of a smear campaign. Playing to the gallery, Meena said, “I give you this assurance on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.” He also claimed that BJP would form a government in 2018 and Vasundhara Raje would be chief minister. The newly acquired bonhomie did not just end at the rally. Raje and Meena travelled back to Jaipur in the same helicopter.
