The recent spurt in terrorist activities in the Kashmir valley has put Rajasthan on alert. The police have been directed to stay on extra vigil owing to the disturbances in the valley. Highly placed sources in the state police department have said that a general alert has been sounded. “Whenever any terrorist act occurs in Kashmir, alert is sounded across the border regions of Rajasthan as a precautionary measure. This is done so as to negate any border crossing from Pakistan side and also to increase the vigil at important installations and areas in the district,” the sources said.
The sources said that alert serves various purposes primary among them is negation of intelligence collection. “You may not know but an attack in the valley may serve as an easy way for terrorists and similar outfits to enter the country from here and gather information about important installation like military bases. This becomes easy as the attention is diverted towards the events in valley which might result in slackness in our vigilance. To counter such a situation, the alert is sounded. Although no major threat has emanated from border here, the crossing of border from Jaisalmer area is a major activity which we try to cut down,” another official in the know how of border intelligence informed.
Speaking about the alert, SP Jaisalmer, Gaurav Yadav said, “The alert is not Jaisalmer specific. However, since it is the border district it would not be wrong to say that we have heightened the level of vigilance.”
