A first of its kind project in the country, an unused road stretch in Dholpur district will be converted into an air strip to take off or land planes in future, claimed chief minister Vasundhara Raje while laying foundation stone of Dholpur Lift Irrigation project on Friday. Estimated to cost Rs852 crore, the project aims to provide water to 234 villages of Bari, Dholpur and Rajakhera tehsils.

Addressing the gathering at the ceremony, the CM once again hinted that development will be her agenda in the final year of her tenure ahead of the assembly polls. She has announced for repairing 14,100km roads in next 12 months spending Rs2,300 crore.

She emphasised on initiating Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) which would be a boon for 13 districts in terms of meeting water needs, be it for drinking or irrigation purposes.

“We have already sent a detailed project report to the Central government on the ERPC. The project will link water of Kalisingh, Chakan, Mej and Parvati rivers to Chambal Lift and Dholpur Lift irrigation projects to provide irrigation water to farmers of 13 districts to reap two harvests in a year,” said Raje.

She said that her government has renovated 22262km roads spending Rs3527 crore in the past four years. “Now I make a major announcement. Dholpur Badi Old road will be repaired and used as a air strip for plane’s landing and take off. This will be the first of its kind experiment in the country,” said Raje while talking about 1.8km long and 45 metres wide road to be used for the air strip. Currently, the road is damaged and lying unused.

Set for record run

Raje has promised to the people to complete Dholpur Lift project in a record time of three years. “This will be India’s first irrigation project in which 1600km network of pipeline will be laid to supply water.
