Unkept promise: Farmers vow to vote against BJP at Bhinmal

Farmers said that Raje had promised them water while she was touring the state for the Suraj Sankalp Yatra and the promise is yet to be completed.

Not far away from the route of chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra, thousands of farmers on Friday staged a huge protest at Bhinmal in support of their demands for water. The farmers are upset with the government for not fulfilling its poll promise of bringing water of Mahi Banas River to Jalore. Farmers said that Raje had promised them water while she was touring the state for the Suraj Sankalp Yatra and the promise is yet to be completed.

Protesting under the banner of Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS), the sabha was attended by farmers from across the state. Women farmers were also present in large numbers. Addressing the gathering,  state president of KSS Vikram Singh Punasa said, “Water is most vital to us. Farmers feel cheated that the promise has not been fulfilled and they would vent their anger in the upcoming polls by voting against BJP.”

Farmer leader Sunita Vishnoi said, “Water from Mahi Banas for farmers was part of BJP’s poll promises. All that has been done in the direction is to form a committee to study the matter. We voted in support of that promise and this time we will vote against BJP as it has not been fulfilled.”
