In a shocking episode of public misconduct, a private college administrator slapped and manhandled the vice-chancellor of Jai Narayan Vyas (JNV) University, Jodhpur, RP Singh, in a function where higher education minister Kiran Maheshwari was also seated by his side.

The incident took place on Friday when Kiran Maheshwari arrived at the university to inaugurate an incubation centre at the MBM engineering college on the campus. The accused has been identified as one Khartaram Bana who runs Luv Kush college in Dhorimanna area of the Barmer district.

“He came out of nowhere. The minister, V-C and the registrar were seated on stage when he approached the V-C and slapped him once,” an official attending the event said.

The man lunged at the V-C again, but was reportedly caught in time by ABVP student leader Bhupendra Singh who was present there. The student thrashed him and then handed him over to the V-C’s security guard. The accused was placed under arrest by the Jodhpur police shortly after.

Sources said that JNV University had suspended the results of Luv Kush College run by the accused after complaints of mass cheating were reported. The incident is being seen as a reaction to the varsity decision.

According to officials, minister Kiran Maheshwari has directed that a probe into the complaint against the said college be completed at the earliest. If found true then its affiliation must be revoked immediately, she directed officials.

NOT THE FIRST TIME

This isn’t the first time that Khartaram Bana has been engaged in manhandling people in public. According to sources, he is the same guy who had allegedly slapped BJP MP Col Sonaram last year after altercation at a marriage venue.
