Unknown assailants allegedly fired on the convoy of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Dr Kiriori Lal Meena as he was travelling through Sapotara in Karauli district of Rajasthan. Around four—five persons came in a vehicle and fired in the air creating a panic and escaped. The incident took place near near Kushalgarh crossing in the Sapotara police station area.No one was injured in the incident.
Meena’s supporters chased the vehicle but it managed to get away. Huge crowd of Meena’s supporters gathered on the spot after the incident. Meena was travelling across villages in Karauli to distribute peeel chawal (yellow rice) to invite people to attend BJP president Amit Shah’s rally in Bharatpur on September 22. Shah is scheduled to address people from Karauli, Dhaulpur, Sawai Madhopur and Bharatpur.
“There were around four or five in the vehicle and they fired on my convoy. I have informed the police SP. The assailants have been been identified. One of is from Khanpur. I urge all to keep calm as we have a larger cause that is to be completed,” said Kirodi Lal Meena after the incident.
According to SP Karauli Ajay Singh, “Immediate search for the assailants was launched on getting information about the incident. Check posts have been set up and teams have been formed to look for the assailants. We hope to catch them soon.”ss
Meena, a stalwart tribal leader, had been opposed to the state unit of BJP and left the party before 2008 assembly polls. His wife was a minister in the Ashok Gehlot government. He has recently joined BJP again after the intervention of national leadership and has been made a Rajya Sabha MP.

Kirori Lal Meena is the undisputed leader of the tribals in Rajasthan. He was recently, reinducted into the party and was nominated as a parliamentarian. He was taking stock of arrangements for Amit Shah’s rally in Eastern Rajasthan.
