Even before he took the charge as chairman of Rajasthan Tax Board, senior IAS Umesh Kumar, has been transferred for the second time in a month. Appointed as Chairman of Rajasthan Roadways on Saturday, it's his third transfer in the last 6 months in the latest round of transfer of IAS officers.

He has now been made the chairman of Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation ( RSRTC). Along with him, posting has also been given to Dr Ashok Singhvi who was awaiting posting since August this year after being reinstated by the state government. He has been made director general of Indira Gandhi Panchayati Raj institution. The transfer order of Umesh Kumar was, however, not surprising. He was transferred as chairman of Rajasthan Tax Board, Ajmer, on 5th of this month.

However, instead of joining the post, he proceeded on leave. Sources informed that it was only after the central intervention that he has been given “good posting”. It’s now being asked in corridors of power whether he would join this post or not.

However, since he is back in Jaipur from Ajmer, there is a strong possibility of him taking up the charge of chairman of roadways which is already passing through challenging times. Umesh Kumar, who is an IAS officer of 1983 batch, has been moved like a pendulum ever since he came back from deputation last July from Asian Development Bank in Manila. He was the executive director there. Once back, in July 2016, he was posted as an additional chief secretary at the department of Industries and also headed RIICO. However, in just 10-month’s time, he was transferred to housing board as its chairman in May 2017.

In bureaucratic circles, Housing Board is considered a cold posting. However, there too Kumar was not given much time and was transferred as chairman of Rajasthan tax board this month.

Meanwhile, Singhvi has got his Diwali gift, after being arrested in mining scam in 2015, he was reinstated in August this year. As such he was to be given posting as per the All India Service rules.
