Two unidentified men robbed a bank in broad daylight in Adarsh Nagar area of Jaipur on Thursday morning and fled with Rs14.78 lakh cash.

Armed with a gun, the miscreants opened fire and even took jewellery the bank manager was wearing while threatening her with the gun.

The loot occurred at UCO Bank Tilak Nagar branch under the Adarsh Nagar police station area. “Early in the morning at 8:45am, the branch has just been opened and not many employees had reached. A sweeper was busy in his daily chores when the two men reached the bank. They had covered their face with a handkerchief and cap to hide their identity,” officials said.

As the men entered the bank, they immediately made the sweeper their hostage. “The men then waited as the safe was locked. Bank manager Rajni Bhargava reached in the meantime followed by other bank staff. The duo made the other bank staff hostage too in a room and confiscated their mobile phones and kept them in a bag.

Threatening of consequences, the men even opened fire twice to strike terror in the hearts of staff and clients.

“The men took the key of the safe from the bank manager. The safe needed two keys and the second key was taken from another staff member. The men took out Rs14.78 lakh from the safe. However, before leaving they also took one gold chain and two gold bangles that the bank manager was wearing along with six thousand rupees from her purse,” officials added.

Later, the men fled on the sweeper’s bike. While fleeing they hurled the bag containing staff members’ mobile, and in the process dropped their gun.

“The police was then informed which rushed to the spot. FSL team was called to gather evidence from the crime scene. The gun was also recovered from the spot. Meanwhile, city-wide barricading was conducted but the miscreants could not be traced till the last report was filed. An investigation has been initiated and CCTV footage has been recovered which is being studied. Further action in the matter is being taken,” officials further added.
