Two dozen cops, officials hurt in clash with protestors in Behror

The situation turned violent and the police had to resort to tear-gas shells to disperse the mob.

Twenty two police men, including senior district officials from Alwar district, sustained injuries in a clash on Tuesday afternoon when they attempted to halt a labour rally and prevent the mob from breaking law at the Neemrana Industrial Area. 

A rally had been organised by labour union when the participants allegedly tried to forcefully enter an industrial establishment. They were, however, stopped by private security men deployed on the premises of the industry, police said.

The police, which was already informed on the development, rushed to the spot and even tried to talk to the agitators, but to no avail. The situation turned violent and the police had to resort to tear-gas shells to disperse the mob. 

The labour union had called for a Labor Rights rally on the 8th and 9th January. “For the purpose of making the rally successful, they had planned to take out a morcha as well. In the afternoon, a few hundred men took out the rally starting from Khetanath Kanta near Hero Chowk,” police said. The rally was to culminate at Ambedkar Park where it would take the form of a general meeting, police said. “However, when the rally was passing in front of the Daikin factory, the members stopped at the factory gates and started protesting. They wanted to get inside the factory and placed their flags and banners there while also attempting to forcefully shut the factory down by taking out the labourers woking on the premises,” said Sanjay poonia, Station House Officer, Neemrana Police Station.

The private security guards at the factory stopped the men from entering the premises and the cops, deployed for law and order maintainance, also stopped the protestors. Suspecting that the situation could deteriorate, Additional Superintendent of Police, Manish Tripathi, Behror Circle officer Kushal Singh rushed to the spot with their teams. The officials tried to pacify the agitators however the men did not pay heed to the cops, whos then used force to remove the men from the main gate, sources said.

This irked the them and they started pelting stones at the cops. “Hundreds of stones were being pelted and we had to call for additional forces. Till reinforcements arrived, many cops, including the ASP and Behror CO were injured,” officials said.

Shutdown Call

The labour union had called for a Labour Rights rally on 8th and 9th January. The rally was passing in front of an industry when they tried to shut it down and reportedly forced the workers out.
