Twenty six calves rescued in Kota village, smugglers flee

At least 26 calves, two of them dead, were early on Tuesday morning freed from a stationary truck in Talabgaon village on Kota- Jaipur national highway under Hindoli police station area of Bundi district. The unidentified smugglers, on noticing the gaurakshaks chasing them, fled leaving the truck behind in Talabgaon village. Meanwhile, members of Gaurakshak Dal alleged inaction on the part of the police that led to smugglers flee and death of two claves due to suffocation.

SHO at Hindoli police station Laxman Singh said 26 calves were tightly packed in the truck and by the time the calves were taken out two of them had died. The rescued calves were sent to gaushala and a case under section of Cow Protection Act was lodged against the unidentified driver of the truck that bore the number from Haryana, the SHO said.

The police control room in Bundi was informed about the truck around 1 o’clock last night and a team of Gourakashak Dal also started chasing the truck from toll plaza in Hindoli but the police did not reach the spot in time, Nitesh Gandhi, member of Gaurakshak Dal from Bundi said. The smugglers tried to dodge the gaurakshaks by taking  U-turns and entering into the roadside villages but eventually, at around 3.30am they fled away leaving the truck, Gandhi said, alleging that despite five to six calls to the police control room, police team did not reach the spot.

By the time, the police from Hindoli police station reached the spot, 2 of the 26 calves freed from the truck were dead due to suffocation, Gandhi said, holding police responsible for their death.
