Tractor rams into house killing 3 toddlers

Three toddlers of about 4 to 6 years old were killed and three others including minor sustained injuries, late on Sunday night, after an uncontrolled tractor, in reverse gear, rammed into the wall of the house collapsing over the family members sleeping inside. The three injured are undergoing medical treatment in a government hospital in Jhalawar while the three bodies were handed over to the family members after postmortem on Monday morning. The tractor driver fled from the spot after the mishap.

The granddaughters and other family members of one Babulal Meena, a resident of Thanawad village were asleep in the room on Sunday night when an uncontrolled tractor in reverse gear rammed into the wall of the house following which the wall and the roof of the room collapsed over the family members, told SHO, Eklera police station Hemraj Mund.

Three girls  (toddlers) of the family identified as Arushi, Meesa and Mikki, all about four to six years old were buried under the debris and killed on the spot while three other members of the family including one minor sustained injuries in the mishap, he added.

The mishap occurred about 11.30pm on Sunday night when the accused tractor driver, identified as Hansraj Meena, was plowing the agriculture field, he said, adding that the driver had put the tractor in reverse gear and could not control it. Consequently, the tractor went out of control and after hitting two to three houses around the field, it rammed into the house of Babulal Meena collapsing the wall and roof of one of the rooms, the SHO said.

The three babies had died by the time the debris was removed, he said. The three injured were rushed to the government hospital in Jhalwar where they are undergoing medical treatment, the SHO said. A case of negligent driving has been lodged against the accused driver Hansraj Meena and further investigation into the matter is underway, the SHO said.
