Three killed, four injured in cylinder blast

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Shahpura who were then referred to SMS hospital.

Three people died while four were injured seriously in Shahpura (Jaipur) on Saturday after a gas cylinder blast. The incident took place in factory area in Shahpura while food was being cooked in the basement of a shop at about 2:30 pm.

The injured were rushed to a government hospital in Shahpura who were then referred to SMS hospital. Three people succumbed to burnt injuries during treatment while others are struggling in the hospital. It was the second major accident in Shahpura in recent times when a transformer had blasted in October leaving 14 killed and around 20 people injured.   

Earlier, senior police officials rushed to the spot and rescued them before taking them to the hospital.

SMS hospital spokesperson Dr S S Yadav informed that Kamlesh and Umesh who were from Bihar and Upendra from UP died during the treatment. Sources informed that the rest who are injured were burnt between 60% to 90%. 

After the blast, people came in shock and the basement area was vacated. The blast also caused damage to some parts of the building. Fire tender from Chomu was also called in to control the fire which erupted due to leakage of gas causing blast. 

Health minister Kalicharan Saraf and Assembly Deputy Speaker Rao Rajendra Singh went to the SMS hospital to seek the status of the patient.

Prior to these deaths, a women had died in Jaipur few days back after a gas stove caught fire while more than a dozen people lost lives in Beawar after a blast in cylinder took place in February this year.
