If the number claims are to be believed, Rajasthan the far West state is all set to have close affiliations with the next Vice President of the nation. The state that can lay claim to sending but a handful parliamentarians to the Delhi, has now established a connection with the powers of corridors.

The talk in political circle is that the road to plum constitutional and cabinet posts goes through Rajasthan. The nomination of M Venkaiah Naidu as VP candidate had further strengthened this premise.

Son of the soil Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Shekhawati bahu Pratibha Patil moved to became Vice President and President and now M Venkaiah Naidu the RS MP from the state is all set to take the tally to three.

The senior leaders who reach the upper house via Rajasthan too have been getting plum posts. The Minister of Youth Affairs and sports Vijay Kumar Goyal is a RS MP from Rajasthan. Ram Jethmalani Union Minister of Law Justice and Company Affairs in the Vajpayee Government had secured RS berth from Rajasthan. Jaswant Singh who had joined politics under the tutelage of Bhairon Singh Shekhawat became the Union Minister of External Affairs in the Vajpayee cabinet during his first stint in RS.

The Rajasthan to Rajya Sabha route also reaches Governor houses and several have travelled it. Veteran BJP leader Sundar Singh Bhandari went on to be governor of Bihar and Gujarat, Najma Heptulla, the RS MP from Rajasthan from 2004 - 10 went on to be the Union Minister of Minority Affairs and subsequently the Governor of Manipur. VP Singh, the very articulate RS MP from Rajasthan, is currently the governor of Punjab.

Not just the BJP, the case hold true for Congress also. Anand Sharma was a RS MP from Rajasthan when he held the portfolios of Union Minister for Commerce and Industry and Textiles. Same was the case with Santosh Bagrodia the former Union Coal Minister.

With Venkaiah Naidu’s resignation one seat in Rajasthan quota falls vacant and if the buzz in Delhi is to be believed, the list of hopefuls is getting longer by the minute.
