The BJP central leadership is in a quandary over the political development in Rajasthan. The defeat in by polls has triggered panic in the party. And there were huge speculations that party may undergo massive reshuffle – both in cabinet and organisation. The corridors of political power were abuzz with rumours that Rajasthan government may induct two deputy chief ministers while dropping 5-6 non-performing ministers, keeping the right social engineering in mind.

“Both state and central leadership is confused over the state of affairs in the party post debacle in the bypolls. The ‘storm’ has been settled down for now. Both CM and central leadership are yet to reach any consensus on this. Cabinet reshuffle is imminent but it will take some time. Till then there will be status quo,” said a senior party leader.

The Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje had gone to Bharati Bhawan on Friday to discuss with RSS functionaries about the probable cabinet reshuffle. But even the RSS reportedly gave a cold shoulder to the reshuffle for now putting speculations to rest.

“It hints that the exercise has been stalled for some time,” said a senior BJP leader.

However, there are chances that the state BJP president Ashok Parnami may get replaced. The decision on this is also hanging in balance. Keeping in mind the utility and contribution of Parnami as state chief, Raje is reported to have tried her best to retain him but the central leadership has some other plans for Parnami. There is a visible disappointment in Raje camp over this. And when cabinet reshuffle happens, Parnami may be inducted as minister for UDH or Public Relations.

Meanwhile, after the defeat in UP bypolls, the central leadership has indicated that the party is more concerned about the outcome of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

“The state leadership has to take charge of the assembly elections as the party’s ‘high command’ is more keen on getting maximum seats for the 2019 elections. Raje will have to come up with poll strategy for a repeat in the assembly polls,” said a party insider.

Any change in the cabinet or organisation will ‘caste line’ writ large. The party will have to balance the caste equation by inducting a Brahmin, Rajput, Jat, Scheduled  Caste and Gurjar MLA.
