The contract duration for consultant firm to draft project report of the second phase of Jaipur Metro has expired before formal approval of the report. The French firm Egis Rail is set to apply for an extension for completion of the pending task. The consultant though is yet to submit a formal request for the extension even as the contract expired on August 3.

The consultant firm is apparently unlikely to admit the delay caused due to reports pending for consideration of Jaipur Metro and state government. The officials at Jaipur Metro though claim that some components of the task remain pending. “There are a total of 9 related reports that the consultant has to submit as part of the second phase detailed project report. Even as the majority of the work has been completed, some still needs to be completed,” said a Jaipur Metro official. “The consultant in the previous discussion has asked for a nearly two-month extension,” he adds.

A comprehensive mobility plan drafted by the consultant remains under consideration for approval of the state government. The plan has held development of the second phase of Jaipur Metro from Sitapura to Ambabari as feasible and necessary for public transportation. It will only be after due approval of the mobility plan that the draft report will get a green signal.

It is thus likely that the Jaipur metro second phase may take more time to be approved in plan and accordingly in development. It is expected to connect with the phase 1 of the metro at Sindhi Camp station and thus provide metro connectivity in all directions of the city. The first phase presently operational between Mansarovar to Chandpole is expected to be extended from Chandpole to Chhoti Chaupar and Badi Chaupar by December. The two new underground metro stations are nearly ready and being prepared for the inauguration.
